Two Minimum Wages in One Valley
The City of Santa Clarita, which includes Valencia, Saugus, Newhall, and Canyon Country, has no general local minimum wage, so the state rate applies: $16.90 an hour in 2026. Stevenson Ranch and Castaic are a different story. They’re unincorporated Los Angeles County, where the county minimum wage is $18.47 an hour since July 1, 2026. If your employer has you working on both sides of that line, your pay may need to reflect both rates.
The Jobs and the Problems
Santa Clarita’s employers include aerospace and medical-device manufacturers, distribution centers, hospitals and clinics, a large theme park with a big seasonal staff, and a steady stream of film and TV productions. In manufacturing and distribution, the common problems are unpaid time spent putting on and taking off required gear, rounded time punches, and overtime miscalculated on alternative schedules. In healthcare, it’s missed breaks and medical leave denials.
Seasonal workers often assume they have fewer rights. They don’t. Seasonal and part-time employees are owed minimum wage, overtime, breaks, paid sick leave once they’ve worked 30 days in a year, and their final paycheck on time when the season ends. When an employer willfully pays late, the penalty can be up to 30 days of wages.
